In 2015, I first heard of the term “white feminism.” What does this term mean for feminists and women who are a different race?
“Feminism,” to me, was a progressive concept because of the fact that it was so inclusive and implied the unification of womankind all over the world. When this term came around, I was really taken about, and slightly offended at the idea of compartmentalizing the definition this way. While I do understand that gender equality often means different things depending on who you are and where you’re from, it still felt like we were taking a few steps backwards. Am I harshly/wrongly interpreting this? If not, what does this mean for non-white feminists? What does this term mean to others?
