How to use CorrLinks for free email to Federal Prisoners
CorrLinks is the Bureau of Prisons’ official e-mail system used to enable federal prisoners to connect with those on the outside. In order to use Corrlinks, inmates pay. For those on the outside, however it is accessible. For a small charge, you can upgrade to a premium account, but this is not required. I will teach you, step-by-step, in this hub, how to set up a CorrLinks account and use it for free to email federal prison inmates.
Stage 1: Invitation Receipt.
You must first receive an email request from them which means you must first give them your email address) in order to connect with federal prison inmates. Without first receiving the request, you can actually register for a CorrLinks account; but you will not be able to email any inmates yet (click here to simply register for an account; and continue reading from “Step 3: Registration” for help with the registration process. Until you receive it, ignore all guidance on the Inmate Identification Code.).
After you send them your email address and apply it to the CorrLinks system, the inmate request will come to your e-mail inbox (sometimes it appears as spam, so you will need to check your spam box). ‘CorrLinks’ will be the sender, and the name of the inmate will be included in the issue. In the subject box, click on the prisoner’s name to proceed to the next step.
Step 2: The Appeal for Inmates
In the prisoner request email, you are presented with two critical pieces of information. The first one is the CorrLinks website connect. The Inmate Identification Code is the second one. Later, the Inmate Identification Code can come in handy. What you want to do at this stage is if you don’t already have one, click on the link to the CorrLinks website to register for a CorrLinks account. That will take you to the Corrlinks Login / registration page.
Step 3: Matriculation
Register. Press Register. This will take you to the Password and Sign Up / Email Address page.
Step 4: Sign Up / Password Page and Email Address
Fill in all the information required and copy and paste Step 2 of the Inmate Identification Code into the Identification Code box at the bottom of the page. Make sure you use the same email address here that you have received the request to email a federal prisoner, or their identification code will not work. Click the check box, then click the Next’ button. A verification email will be sent to your e-mail inbox.
Step 5: Enable Alerts for Email
If prompted, make sure you click the ‘Allow E-mail Alert’ checkbox at any time to enter an inmate’s ID code. Click ‘Accept’ then. This will send notices whenever they send you a message through CorrLinks to your regular email inbox. Otherwise unless you monitor CorrLinks periodically, they might be sending you messages and you would never know it.
Step 6: Email Verification
The verification email will come from the sender: “Web@CorrLinks.com” and the “Sign Up Verification Link” subject line will read. To proceed, click on the connection.
Step 7: Connection to Sign Up Verification
Tap on the link for verification. This will take you to the page for Sign Up / Account Information.
Step 8: Sign Up / Page Account Information
